Teanko returns with a deeply personal new single, “Can You Recognize Me,” built around a story that started more than five decades ago in Blokker, a small village in the Netherlands. Singer-songwriter and producer Theo Konst from the Netherlands started the music project Teanko, but long before that, he and his childhood friend Tom were already writing songs and performing at primary school. Their first stage was a simple wooden structure beside the school, called "the veranda," where two young musicians started a journey none of them could have foreseen.
That journey was abruptly brought to a halt when Tom tragically died in an accident at only 17, leaving one of the songs they had begun together unfinished. More than half a century later Theo returned to that piece of his past, with the experience, the technology and the time to complete what they had started. The result is weighted with a friendship that never got to run its natural course, turning an incomplete childhood notion into a finished piece heavy with memory, affection and reflection.
The story makes a lot of the places that influenced Theo’s early years in Oosterblokker. The Café de Harmonie stood next to the local church and the huge tree that was there when he was a child and is still there today and was once the center of life in the village. The old school veranda also makes a strong return as a reminder of where it all began. These details anchor the song in a sense of place, and link the past to a future Theo has yet to reach.

Theo Konst has been involved with music for over 50 years, starting with his first band at primary school, and going on to professional studio work, song-writing, recording and music technology. At 18, he cut his first professional studio record and that long history gives “Can You Recognize Me” an authentic sense of distance traveled. Now living in Portugal, Theo brings decades of experience to a record that feels less like a look back and more like a conversation between different periods of one life.
The closing of “Can You Recognize Me” is a poignant idea: that some artistic collaborations can survive, even after time, distance and loss have altered the world around them. Completing the song fifty years later, Teanko has a way to honor Tom and to keep their joint musical beginning alive into the present.
