Timothy Ivan's latest release, "Know the Talk," is an art-pop slow burn capturing the tension of watching someone held back by a relationship that is obviously not right for them. The track sits on a rich musical bed of analog synths, live drums, bass and saxophone with Ivan's subtle vocal blossoming into a bigger, more melancholy chorus. It's a dark, late-night, new-wave-y mood that allows the song's emotional subject to breathe, no frills. Denial is the painful inability to see that which everyone else can already see. "Know the Talk" finds a drama in the still, silent moment before the confession.
