Kanye West's X account deactivated after weekend tirade

The latest installment of Kanye West's social media saga has gone up a notch. Following a weekend-long rant on X (formerly Twitter), the rapper-mogul's account suddenly went dark Sunday evening (February 9).

West, now known as Ye, has long courted controversy but was paying the price this time. During the weekend, the rapper lashed out in a storm of provocative posts, spewing both rhetoric and outright offensive taunts. Almost immediately, his account was marked with a "sensitive content" warning, informing users of the nature of his posts before users even had a chance to interact with them. Then, as fans were settling in for the Super Bowl halftime show, his account was deactivated.

The deactivation follows an especially troubling series of postings by Ye, including an unapologetic statement that says, "I'm a Nazi." He further incited tensions by adding, "I don't like or trust no Jewish person, and this is completely sober with no Hennessy." This latest episode raises troubling questions about how social media treats high-profile figures who virtually never stop spreading dangerous rhetoric.
