TrueMendous x Oliver Rees leaves out being nice on latest release “Cherry Freestyle”

TrueMendous
and Oliver Rees blend jazz-influenced musicianship with classic hip-hop grit on “Cherry Freestyle.” The foundation is thick with texture, with Rees' guitar work, heavy boom-bap drums, glitching synths and a Mini-Moog bassline, and TrueMendous takes advantage of the space to talk about personal experiences, friendships and the realities of building independently. The track is particularly moving when she addresses the under-the-radar machinery of the music business, the networking, the expectations, the pressure to compromise. But TrueMendous doesn’t romanticize the pilgrimage, she takes it head on.
