N. C. Palma's latest release, "Come Back Down," is the fragile space between fury, want, and the fear of screwing up again. Waking up after noon and leaving roses on someone's doorstep again and again immediately puts the listener in an anxious emotional state. Another level of uncertainty is "I may do something I may regret. This connection the narrator feels to something higher creates a strange tension between desire and resentment. The line "it hates me how I hate you" is particularly striking, for it reveals the contradiction at the heart of the song. "Come Back Down" is emotionally disturbing in the best way.
