M. Rumbi’s latest release, “Just a Broken Man” is a beautifully restrained alternative Afro-indie rumination on identity, ageing, and emotional fatigue. With acoustic guitar, layered percussion, live bass synth textures, and subtle African rhythmic influences, the song creates an atmosphere that feels intimate and expansive. Rumbi doesn’t make big, dramatic statements, but instead vulnerability is slowly revealed through repetition and subtle songwriting. The result is deeply moving, articulating a feeling of loneliness and self-doubt with a great deal of honesty. “Just a Broken Man” is a mature, reflective tune that gains power from its more subdued moments.
