Cork’s rising indie sensation Kevin Walsh is back with his latest offering, a heartfelt single titled “Ruby.” Known for his dynamic vocal prowess and emotive storytelling, Walsh takes a softer, more intimate approach with this new release, peeling back layers to reveal a tender side of his artistry.
Since making waves in the Irish music scene with “Embrace The World,” a collaborative project promoting Autism Awareness, Walsh has showcased his ability to connect deeply with listeners. This poignant debut, which hit #1 on iTunes and made its mark on the Irish Homegrown Charts, was just the beginning of an inspiring journey. From headlining conferences to television appearances, Walsh's rise has been nothing short of impressive, highlighting his journey from a non-verbal autistic child to a celebrated artist.
With “Ruby,” Kevin Walsh departs from his previous powerhouse rock numbers, exploring a more nuanced and delicate vocal style. Guided by vocal coach Rebecca Keogh at RK Vocal Studio, Walsh embraced a new approach, focusing on restraint and emotional delivery. "I usually only have two approaches when singing; loud and louder,” he admits with a laugh. But under Keogh’s guidance, and with the production finesse of Kealan Kenny, he found new shades in his voice that perfectly suit the song’s themes of longing and lost love.
“Ruby” begins with a gentle piano melody, setting a nostalgic tone that’s soon enriched by graceful string arrangements. Walsh’s vocals glide effortlessly above, weaving a tale of yearning that feels both timeless and fresh. Drawing inspiration from iconic storytellers like Tom Waits and Sarah McLachlan, he crafts a ballad that’s as moving as it is memorable.
As we anticipate his forthcoming debut EP, “Ruby” serves as a beautiful glimpse into the depth of Kevin Walsh’s evolving sound.
