Ron-Ian Cottam's latest release, "Far Away," is a touching portrait of someone choosing, at last, to be free, after a relationship has taken more than it gives. The song builds around the chorus, "I'm going away, far far away," which repeats throughout and sets the emotional tone from the outset. At the same time, the verses reveal the weariness behind that decision. Cottam captures the difficult moment when it's harder to stay than to leave, especially with the line, "I've tried so hard together with you." It is sad, but it is also determined. "Far Away" ultimately feels like a subtle farewell, a personal statement. The troubles are being left behind.
