Ella Quynh's latest release, "Iconic," explores the thrill and fear of first crushes with a playful, dreamy touch. It's all very teenage angst-y and cinematic, treating love like an old black-and-white movie and quietly admitting the ending may already be written. The line "I slam the door but don't lock it" captures the back-and-forth of opening the door and walking away. The verses are sung over an acoustic guitar, then the full band comes in and lifts the track, giving the arrangement a natural emotional lift. Young, romantic, knowingly bittersweet, "Iconic" is about the thrill of falling and the reality that some stories aren't meant to last.
