Stella Starfox's latest release, “Hammered by a Woman," is an intentionally odd, unpredictable work that combines surreal imagery with old-town unease. The writing is fractured and dreamlike, as if the story is somewhere between reality and a fever dream. Lines like “Boulevard, strange as hell” immediately establish that off-kilter world, and the changing emotional language keeps listeners guessing. There is a certain charm to the fact that Starfox is never quite so eager to make things crystal clear. “Hammered by a Woman” is quirky, atmospheric and intriguing, music that asks for interpretation, rather than providing easy answers.
