Denise Marsa’s latest release, “Ever Die (Acoustic Version)” is strips down to its most intimate emotional core. Originally written on acoustic piano, the recording has an at-risk sense of survival, resilience, isolation and desire to believe that something better is still ahead. David Aron’s delicate saxophone presence adds an unexpected layer without overpowering the song’s delicate character. The emotional core of Marsa’s words is “We are unbreakable,” lending a quiet strength to the track. While the larger arrangement can be viewed as a survival celebration on the outside, the acoustic version is inward-looking, personal, human and thoughtful.
