Ariana Fig’s latest release, “So Long, Sinnerstate!” is a folk-pop collection of songs about identity, ambition and the winding road between who we are and who we are still becoming. It’s her first full-length project since two self-released EPs. Fig expands her songwriting and sonic palette with deeply personal reflections and stories from literature, film and imagined points of view. The material can overcome one point of view and yet have a personal core to that combination. “So Long, Sinnerstate!” is a bigger creative statement from Fig, with reflection, imagination and ambition all rolled into one. It feels like a big step into a broader artistic chapter, informed by ideas personal and universal.
