MOMARZ launches “THE THEORY” with such a strong sense of self, it is deeply felt, layered, and challenging to decipher in an interesting sort of way. This 21-minute EP is the first part of an even longer 16-track project, but it offers a distilled view into where the rest are headed while remaining a strong piece on its own. These are built up from synthwave power and a rootsy warmth, the project breathing with a human pulse beneath layers of electronics. It keeps the EP both intimate and expansive, as though we are touching a personal moment bathed in neon light. We can see that MOMARZ has a feeling-first approach, and it is that attitude that gives “THE THEORY” its sharpest advantage.
The first track "Party Moves" builds the mood with an effortless momentum, but there is more going on here than just propulsion. Fast Living has a buoyant melodic lift that neatly serves as an opening statement, along with piano accents to provide warmth and detail below the sensor's pulse. It gives the impression that MOMARZ is welcoming you into a space where energy and emotion can flourish together without being at odds. “Beyond Sight” follows, taking the EP into a larger emotional scope and casting a more reflective mood. It suits the music well, this track seems to go beyond surface motion and towards something far deeper, exploring it in an immersive way. The production is expansive but never frigid, which helps keep the track anchored even as it drifts into atmosphere. Then “Dynamic Energy” shifts the attention back upward, with a stronger push, this carries more weight and drive while maintaining the melodic core of the project. This arrived with a natural flow instead of a sudden incident, which made the EP flow purposefully instead of song-for-song diversity.
From that point, “The Theory” serves as a thesis for the whole release. The EP closes with the kind of track that entrenches you in the emotional and sonic ideas of this EP all at once, giving you a glimpse of what MOMARZ is creating across this larger project. The mixture of electronic sheen and piano-lead emotion makes the track intimate whilst maintaining its momentum. “BOOST THAT BASS” takes the EP into more menacing territory with a harder, direct beat and some grit-infused pulses for momentum. It retains the same musical personality that characterizes the rest of the project even at its most driving, so intensity is deserved. Closing with "Signals," MOMARZ returns the EP to a more atmospheric space, making use of detail and texture to have an impact. It seems like a very considered place to finish, one that implies momentum, direction, and an ongoing narrative. That such a thing as "THE THEORY" is why it not only feels like a beginning but is never half-finished.
