Canadian singer BENJII releases his new track “Allmine,” a captivating fusion of alt-pop and deep R&B that encapsulates both vulnerability and confidence simultaneously. The Vancouver-based musician, Benji Klassen, known for his roles as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, has established a reputation for fusing passion with intensity, and this record further advances that progression with sophistication and profundity.
Raised in a tranquil Canadian village next to the United States, Benji found music as an escape from stillness and solitude. His foundation was profoundly influenced by guitar luminaries like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and John Mayer, rooted in blues and rock. Upon relocating to Vancouver, he started the development of a novel sound that substitutes abrasive guitar riffs for polished, textured productions influenced by musicians such as The Weeknd, The Neighbourhood, and The 1975. The amalgamation is essential to "Allmine."
The tune flows with atmospheric accuracy, constructed on seamless synth layers and a sombre beat that conveys both intensity and closeness. BENJII's vocals transition seamlessly between falsetto and tenderness, creating an atmosphere that is both dramatic and profoundly intimate. It serves as a nocturnal hymn for introspective periods, a composition that endures much after the last note's cessation.
Behind the music exists a narrative of perseverance. Following a catastrophic tour bus accident that resulted in the hospitalisation of the members, Benji's trajectory as a former member of Vancouver's indie band, Hawking, underwent a significant transformation. The experience transformed his life and creativity, leading him to seclusion, self-exploration, and ultimately, the reinvention of his music as BENJII. His choice to compose in seclusion with his spouse and the three wolves accompanying him enabled him to cultivate the unique, emotionally resonant tone that now characterises his solo endeavours.
“Allmine” signifies a bold new phase for BENJII. Co-produced once again with Ryan Worsley, the music is a declaration of survival and regeneration. It is elegant but emotive, fragile yet formidable music derived from experience and created with intention. As BENJII further hones his niche within the alt-pop genre, “Allmine” illustrates that his voice and narrative are unequivocally his own.
