Casarachi’s “The Conquering Man” feels like a journey into the unknown

As unexpected as the atmosphere its concept suggests, Casarachi’s “The Conquering Man” has an origin story. The song came about spontaneously, a Viking’s imagination and a language that seemed to flow naturally in the creative process. That impulsive beginning lends the track a nice air of mystery. “The Conquering Man” wasn’t built on a carefully constructed concept but grew organically, with the Viking inspired imagery forming the backbone of the experience.

The discovery that followed added another fascinating dimension. After completing the song, an exploration of the meanings of the sounds and words suggested connections to Old Norse, including one associated in part with setting out on a sea voyage. The concept of a sea voyage also fits well with the Viking imagery that inspired the track. It suggests movement, uncertainty, exploration, and a willingness to leave familiar surroundings. Even without reducing the song to one interpretation, that association gives “The Conquering Man” an adventurous character.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the track is how little of it appears to have been forced into existence. The song just happened, with an idea in mind and then letting the sounds and the words take you where they will. Sometimes the meaning in creative work comes after the work has been made.
